About Field Guide to AI
Making AI education accessible to everyone—no PhD required, no jargon overload, just practical knowledge you can use.
Our Mission
Field Guide to AI exists to democratize artificial intelligence education. We believe that understanding AI shouldn't require a computer science degree or fluency in technical jargon. Whether you're a complete beginner taking your first steps, a professional exploring AI for your business, or a developer building with LLMs, you deserve clear, practical, jargon-free guidance.
We've built a comprehensive resource with 100+ guides, structured learning paths, an extensive glossary, and practical tools—all completely free. Our goal is simple: help you understand AI, use it confidently, and make informed decisions about when and how to apply it in your life and work.
Meet the Founder
Marcin Piekarski
Web Developer & AI Educator
Hi! I'm Marcin, a web developer based in Western Sydney, Australia, with over 15 years of experience building websites, web applications, and digital solutions. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working on projects for major Australian and international brands including Gumtree, CarsGuide, CommBank, Optus, Woolworths, Nestlé, and M&C Saatchi.
I specialize in front-end technologies and modern frameworks like React, Vue, and Node.js. Over the years, I've watched the web evolve from static HTML pages to sophisticated, AI-powered applications. The recent explosion of accessible AI tools—particularly large language models like ChatGPT and Claude—fascinated me not just as a developer, but as someone who believes technology should empower everyone.
I created Field Guide to AI to bridge the gap between complex AI technology and everyday users. Having spent 15+ years translating technical concepts into user-friendly experiences for clients, I apply the same philosophy here: make it simple, make it practical, make it accessible.
I use AI tools, workflows, and agents daily—both professionally and personally. From ChatGPT and Claude for research and writing, to custom AI workflows for automating repetitive tasks, to AI-powered coding assistants that accelerate development. I've seen firsthand how these tools are massive productivity multipliers when used correctly. They've transformed how I work, learn, and solve problems.
The challenge? Most people don't know how to use these tools correctly. They try ChatGPT once, get mediocre results, and give up. Or they're overwhelmed by the options and never start. That's the gap Field Guide to AI fills—practical, step-by-step guidance on actually using AI effectively, not just understanding what it is.
Built with AI, for Learning AI
In the spirit of practicing what we preach, Field Guide to AI was created with the assistance of AI tools—primarily ChatGPT and Claude. This isn't something we hide; it's a core part of our philosophy.
Using AI to teach AI demonstrates several important principles:
- AI as a tool, not a replacement: Every guide, explanation, and resource is reviewed, edited, and refined by me. AI helps draft, research, and organize—but human judgment, experience, and quality control ensure accuracy and clarity.
- Transparency builds trust: We believe in being honest about our methods. If we recommend using AI responsibly, we should model that behavior ourselves.
- Continuous improvement: AI allows us to iterate quickly, test different explanations, and create comprehensive content faster than traditional methods—meaning we can keep pace with rapidly evolving AI technology.
- Real-world demonstration: By building this site with AI assistance, we show what's possible when humans and AI collaborate effectively.
All content is fact-checked against authoritative sources (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, academic research), tested hands-on, and verified for accuracy. AI accelerates the process—human expertise ensures quality.
Field Guide to AI itself is an example of what's possible with AI. This entire site—100+ guides, comprehensive resources, structured learning paths—was built in a fraction of the time traditional methods would require. It's a living demonstration of how AI tools, when used skillfully, can amplify human capabilities. We're not just teaching about AI—we're showing you what you can accomplish with it.

Don't know where to start? Our beginner, intermediate, and advanced paths guide you step-by-step from zero to confident AI user or builder.
Practical Focus
Every guide includes real-world applications, use cases, and actionable advice. We care about what you can do with AI, not just what it is.
Always Free
All 100+ guides, learning paths, glossary terms, and resources are completely free. No paywalls, no premium tiers, no hidden costs.
Regularly Updated
AI evolves fast. We review content quarterly and update immediately when capabilities change, ensuring you always have current information.
Comprehensive Coverage
From absolute basics ("What is AI?") to advanced implementation (RAG, fine-tuning, multi-agent systems)—all in one place.
Our Vision: Just Getting Started
The journey of Field Guide to AI is just beginning. This site is proof-of-concept—a demonstration of what one person can build with AI tools in their corner. It's not the destination; it's the starting line.
My vision extends beyond education alone. I want to enable people—especially those in Australia, New Zealand, and the broader Asia-Pacific region—to harness AI tools, workflows, and agents as productivity multipliers in their daily lives. Too many talented people are held back simply because they don't know how to leverage these tools effectively.
Field Guide to AI is the first step in building an ecosystem of resources that showcase what's possible with AI:
- Expanding guide coverage to emerging AI tools, techniques, and real-world workflows
- Launching AIPowerUps—a companion site focused on practical AI workflows, automation recipes, and productivity multipliers you can implement immediately
- Building regional communities where Australian and New Zealand professionals can share AI implementation stories, challenges, and solutions
- Creating industry-specific resources tailored to local business contexts and use cases
- Developing video tutorials and interactive experiences that show AI workflows in action, not just theory
- Showcasing real examples of how AI accelerates projects—using Field Guide to AI itself as the primary case study
The ultimate goal? Help you achieve in days what used to take weeks, and weeks what used to take months. AI isn't magic, but when you understand how to use these tools properly—combining the right prompts, workflows, and agents—the results can feel magical. I'm excited to help you discover that for yourself.
Our Commitment to Quality
Quality and accuracy are non-negotiable. Every guide and resource we publish:

- Is tested hands-on to verify techniques and examples actually work
- Is reviewed for clarity to ensure beginners can understand without prior knowledge
- Is updated regularly when AI capabilities change or new information becomes available
- Cites sources when referencing specific claims or research
